Ladies and gentlemen,
It is with deep regret and sadness that I announce today that one of my colleagues at Santos has passed away as a result of injuries sustained in the accident at Moomba yesterday.
His family has asked that at this time we not release his name and we will respect their wishes as his parents are in transit and yet unaware that he has passed away.
What I would like to say is [that] the employee concerned was a very popular, well respected and highly regarded member of the Santos team. He will be remembered for his natural leadership qualities, his energy and enthusiasm at work and his contribution to Santos. He will be greatly missed by us all.
Let me express my deepest sympathy to all his family. Our thoughts are with them and we are providing whatever assistance and support we can at this difficult time.
The three other men were treated at Moomba and did not require hospitalisation.
An investigation team has begun the process of examining the cause of the accident. We are working with the Government authorities in the investigation. When the team has made its findings we will be in a position to make further comment.
