Telstra Cable Boosts Fast Internet Access in Perth

Telstra today announced a significant boost in high speed internet access for residents in Perth now that the optical fibre cable network has been enabled for broadband internet from 7 May.

The enabling of the broadband cable means that a majority of people in Perth now have access to always-on, high speed internet services via cable or ADSL, with the remainder being able to access broadband services via satellite.

Mr Denis Mullane, Telstra General Manager for BigPond Internet Services, said: "Accessing BigPond broadband on cable means that people do not need a second telephone line for internet access and they have always-on high-speed access to rich multimedia content available on Telstra’s broadband service."

"This move complements Telstra’s ADSL rollout in Perth which has been taken up at a very pleasing rate."

Mr Mullane said enabling the Perth cable means that all Telstra’s cable assets in Australia now provide Pay TV via Foxtel and BigPond broadband internet access.

"All 2.5 million homes passed by cable in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Adelaide and Perth now have access to BigPond broadband internet as well as Foxtel Pay TV services. This is driving significant value from the Telstra cable network."

For those people in Perth who cannot get broadband services on either cable or ADSL, BigPond Broadband via satellite is available

Telstra has improved the high-speed satellite broadband service by offering a complete solution for the broadband and dial-up components of the service.

"We have responded to customers’ requests to receive one bill for their satellite service. Telstra now offers a complete access price package, including both the satellite and dial-up services," Mr Mullane said.
