Premier Sets Highest Standards for CEO PerformancesMay 14th, 2001 The Beattie Government is demanding the highest standards of accountability and services for Queenslanders from its top public servants. All public service Chief Executive Officers must enter into demanding performance agreements under a management policy announced by Premier Peter Beattie today. The policy affects 23 Directors-General across State Government departments. "I am determined to foster a high-performance culture among Queensland's top public servants," said Mr Beattie. "This is about delivery of good government to the people of our State," he said. "A performance-based incentive policy will ensure our top CEOs do the best possible job. "I am determined to continue to raise the bar for our CEOs. The people of Queensland deserve nothing less than the very best from out top public servants. "The Government has set some key priorities this term and we are committed to delivering them. We can only do that with the full commitment of these CEOs." CEOs' agreements will be based on key government priorities. They will be required to report on their performance at the end of the financial year, by outlining how they have implemented those priorities and what their successes are. Departmental CEOs who achieve set targets may receive performance-based bonuses of up to 15 per cent of their salary. "The performance of all CEOs will be reviewed at regular intervals," said Mr Beattie. "Performance management has played a role in the private sector for many years now with much success. I see no reason why we, as a Government and provider of services to the people of Queensland, should not aim higher in delivering on our commitments."
