AIS Basketballer Named in Boomers Team

By Joshua Smith - 7th May, 2001

Australian Institute of Sport Basketballer Luke Schenscher has been named in the Australian Boomers team to play in the East Asian Games being held in Japan from 19-27 May 2001.

The giant 213cm Centre joins the likes of Luc Longley, Shane Heal, Mark Bradtke, and Brett Maher as players who have progressed from the AIS Basketball Program to the Australian team.

Schenscher 19, who has been an AIS scholarship holder since 1999 and has made two national junior squads in the past, says his inclusion in the Boomers team is a dream come true.

"Every player aspires to reach the highest level, so to make an Australian Boomers squad is a fantastic feeling," Schenscher said.

"I've been fortunate enough to be a part of an excellent development program at the AIS which has given me the opportunity to further my basketball career". "I'm really looking forward to playing under Phil Smyth and learning from the great players that are a part of the Boomers team".
