Melbourne IT to Promote New Domains Through its Reseller Ranks

Melbourne IT (ASX: MLB), a leading supplier of domain names and related services to the global market, announced today that it would be providing its global reseller partners with a complete service offering for the new top level domains, commencing with the pre registration phases for dot biz and dot info.

Melbourne IT CEO, Adrian Kloeden said today, "...we are today announcing to domain name resellers globally that Melbourne IT will be the first ICANN-accredited registrar to offer a complete dot biz and dot info pre-registration system for global resellers. This service is now open for pre registration testing and integration," he said.

In the dot biz space, the introduction of this domain is in three phases, with the first phase, the submission of intellectual property (IP) claims on trademarks and business names available now. IP claim forms must be submitted before July 9, 2001.

Speaking about the other ICANN-accredited top level domain (TLD) - dot info, Mr Kloeden said the dot info registry has advised there will be a 30-day sunrise period commencing in late June. It is from this time that anyone with a registered trademark can apply for a corresponding dot info domain name.

"The opportunities for claiming rights to trademarks are core considerations in the roll out of both of the accredited TLDs. This presents registrants with a unique opportunity to affirm rights to intellectual property, before someone else does," he said.

Commenting on the competitive advantages Melbourne IT has in the new domain spaces, Mr. Kloeden said, "as a wholesaler, we don't compete with our customers at a retail level, so we're seen as a trusted third party. Furthermore, customers from America to Europe to the Asia Pacific region want to work with a trusted entity; a stable, profitable company and one that is going to be there for the full lifecycle of the products.
