OpenTV Solidifies Interactive Television Leadership in Asia

May 10th, 2001

OpenTV (Nasdaq:OPTV), the world's leading interactive television and media solutions company, has been selected by Philippine Multi-Media System Inc. (PMSI) to provide the company's subscribers with OpenTV's interactive television (iTV) technology.

PMSI is the first and only digital direct-to-home (DTH) operator in the Philippines. Its DTH services, marketed under the brand name "Dream," are capable of reaching the country's 13.8 million television households, which are spread out over hundreds of islands.

"We are delighted to have the opportunity to take part in the first commercial deployment of interactive television technology in the Philippines with PMSI," said Jeff Brown, managing director of OpenTV Asia Pacific.

"The Philippines has a strong interest in new technology and entertainment. Interactive television applications such as games, short messaging, e-mail and gaming have the potential to be very popular in this new market."

"We are excited to be able to offer our subscribers the world's most advanced interactive television technology," said Manuel Abellada, president of PMSI. "We look forward to delivering the most extensive quality programming and multimedia services in the country."

The agreement further strengthens OpenTV's presence in South East Asia, where it is the leading iTV technology provider to broadcast network operators in Thailand and Singapore. OpenTV is also the leader in interactive television technology in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand.
