Sun Microsystems Releases the Newest Version of the Java™ 2 Platform

Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW) today announced the immediate availability of the beta release for the latest version of the Java™ 2 Platform, Standard Edition software (J2SE™), a premier foundation for rapidly developing and deploying secure, enterprise-class Web applications and services. Version 1.4 of the software builds upon Java technology's cross-platform support and robust security model with new features and functionality, enhanced performance and scalability, and improved reliability and serviceability. The beta releases for the Solaris™ Operating Environment, Windows and Linux, can now be downloaded free of charge from http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4. The first customer ship of J2SE technology v1.4 is scheduled for Q4 2001.
