America Under Fire

Unbelievably, moments after we first reported the disaster affecting the World Trade Center, one of the towers has collapsed onto the streets of cosmopolitan New York.

The building, though in the midst of an emergency evacuation, is occupied by some 40,000 people on a daily basis, with another 150,000 visitors passing through the complex each day. As before, the number of casualties is unknown at this stage.

In addition to this, a major explosion has been reported at the Pentagon. Witnesses claim to have seen a US military helicopter circling the defense building before momentarily vanishing seconds prior to the explosion.

We've recently also been made aware that a mall in Washington City that houses many of the country's national treasures, including a branch of the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum has apparently been attacked. The same mall is home to an office of the Department of Defence.

Although unconfirmed, CNN reporters are noting that a fourth explosion has been reported at Capitol Hill. The White House had been evacuated prior to this, and it's unknown as to whether or not the symbolic building has fallen victim to the tragic terrorist incident.

A Middle-Eastern group allegedly claimed responsibility for this incredibly co-ordinated wave of attacks. It had been suggested that the group, going by the name of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, may have made the attack in response to the United States' involvement in the violence ravaging the Middle East. The group later withdrew its claim.
